Hello all, and welcome to Circle City Spin. I've long thought of starting my own website for independent coverage of the Indiana Pacers and Indiana Fever, and now is the time.
The Pacers just reached the NBA Finals. The Fever were one game away from the WNBA Finals. Tyrese Haliburton and Caitlin Clark are stars. If you want to know more about those teams from someone who has been around both of them for several years – more on that here – this is the place for you.
There are already posts on the site if you want to get a feel for my writing style that you can expect here. For example, here's a story about how Aaron Nesmith was motivated by Spongebob to become a $40 million man. And here's one about the Fever's recently-concluded season from the perspective of the lowly 2022 Fever, starring a leaf blower.
In the future, there will be coverage of the Noblesville Boom, a team I have covered in person for years in various capacities dating back to their time in Fort Wayne. I also hope to have a home for Pacers and Fever salary cap analysis here at Circle City Spin — something I enjoy doing and fans ask me about often.
For now, every post will be free while I get a feel for what makes the most sense to publish and offer to subscribers. That will not last forever. I will continue to cover both teams in other places (the Pacers for Forbes and via Freelance, plus the daily Locked On Pacers podcast and the Fever for The IX).
What truly pushed me to start this website was a feeling of inadequacy. I have covered both teams for a while but have recently felt like I am not doing enough, especially when it comes to games and the on-court product. Some outlets I work for ask for specific kinds of stories. Here, I have much more creative freedom and can use first person, which I think is additive in many ways.
I hope you'll join me for the ride and that over the next few months, the stories are compelling enough that you'll stick around forever. Let's do this.
